Arts & Sciences:A&S Coordinator: Provost Ishmael Stedfast Reed A&S Competition: “Beating the Cold” This competition’s theme is items or art related to keeping warm. This could be clothing, knit wear, tools for fire- making, research on period insulators, poetry about surviving the cold, etc. Entries will be judged using the Kingdom Ministry of Arts and Sciences Judging Form by three judges, with the highest total score declared the overall winner. During the event (time TBD), there will be a “Meet the Makers” hour, in which we would ask all entrants to be present with their items if possible to discuss them with the judges and populace. This will also be the dedicated time for judges to review performed work, should you wish to enter a live performance into the competition, as well as a time for judges to review work that is currently being worn — so don’t hesitate to enter the coat or cloak you came with! There will be multiple winners announced for this competition: Overall winner: the highest total score on entry + documentation will win a prize! In keeping with the theme of the event, the highest scoring entry documented to a non- European area or culture will receive a separate prize. The clothing or fiber entry that, in the judges opinion, best “beats the cold” will receive honorable mention. Anyone who would like to teach classes in connection with any of these themes is encouraged to contact Ishmael Reed (mparden107@gmail.com) to schedule a time slot during the day.
