February 2010 - Changes to the Youth Policy

2009 - Purpose

Greetings! This website is for the youth and those involved with the youth in the Kingdom of Atlantia. This site is currently under construction, so please check back frequently!

The Purpose of the Youth Activities Program in Atlantia is to teach our youth about the SCA; Medieval and Renaissance history; and to create opportunities where they can be fully involved in SCA activities appropriate for their age and ability. We can only do this if we have the buy-in from the parents, youth and other members of the SCA. These pages are here to make it easier to find information about bringing your children to an SCA event; how to get them involved in youth programs and how to run youth programs.

Currently our programs are broken down by age groups:

  • Our Children's activities are geared towards ages 4-8 by holding a Children's Corner at events providing age-appropriate, historically interesting activities.
  • The Pages Academy is geared towards youth ages 9-14 age-appropriate, historically interesting classes/workshops, activities, competitions through the Pages Academy structure.
  • For youth over the age of 14, we coordinate with local event stewards to plan age appropriate activities, including youth fighting, A&S and to create spaces where the teens can socialize in a safe area.

For 2009 we hope to grow stronger and more organized. The rules will continue to evolve and hopefully get clearer as we have time to address new questions and problems. We hope to increase the number of official activities and classes happening, but we need teachers and hosts! Please think about volunteering with the youth of Atlantia.

2008 - Background Check

Greetings! The first round of background check applications have been mailed out in compliance with the new Society rules. The first group from the Youth side to be checked will be Hanim Kisaiya, Lady Livia, Lady Mariana and Lady Muirren. Once these have come back and we are assured that the process works, we will open it up to checking more folks who want to participate in the youth programs. Please continue to check our site for updates on the changes that are upcoming. Kisaiya

The year 2008 is a year of change. The Society and the Kingdom are reformatting the way we deal with and run youth programs. As these changes happen, we will update this page. Again, please be aware that this site is under construction and if you cannot find the information you need, please contact me and I will do my best to help you. Check back frequently to see updates and new information as it is posted.

2007 - From the BoD regarding background checks

From: Patrick Anderson
Date: Dec 23, 2007 1:58 PM
Subject: [Branchseneschals] [Announcements] Background checks
To: announcements AT lists.sca.org
Cc: directors AT sca.org

As was announced last year, the SCA is implementing a background check policy for the benefit of our membership and the organization.

The background checks will be performed by a properly licensed vendor for all persons in leadership and supervisory roles that may require contact with otherwise unchaperoned minors.

Officials who are required to have background checks include, but are not limited to, youth activities officers at all levels, adults acting as youth marshals for any martial activity, persons organizing/in charge of youth activities for events.

This policy will be implemented on February 15, 2008. The Kingdom Seneschals will be informing those who need to undergo background checks of this requirement. Current officers requiring background checks that are subject to this policy will have 4 weeks to return the appropriate paperwork before their warrants will be revoked.

Any questions concerning the implementation of the policy should be directed to your Kingdom Seneschal.
