The Canton of Elvegast presents the 2023 Festival of Elvegast – The Taming of the Shrew – April 13, 2024! Come join us in an immersive event in the Italian peninsula during the 16th century! We will present the Shakespeare play, The Taming of the Shrew, and cultural immersion into Shakespeare’s era. Putting cultural context around Shakespeare’s play, we will explore Italian 16th century culture through clothing, food, games, music, dance, and some fun fighting scenarios!

Fighting Heavy, Rapier, and Target Archery
Arts & Sciences:A&S – Static: Space will be available for static displays – details TBD. Space for display is 18″x20″. Comment cards will be available if one would like to have feedback on their display entry. A&S – Performing: Space will be available for a bardic circle: Lady Diana of Viroconium will host another “Taberna Diana” to share food and song! Shakespeare’s play “The Taming of the Shrew” will be performed at 3:00pm. Games: Italian Renaissance style games will be available to learn and play Scavenger Hunt! A wide variety of SCA related things at an event will be listed in a scavenger hunt ready for ALL ATTENDEES to play the scavenger hunt. Find everything on the list and win a prize!
Feast:We will have an Italian Renaissance feast!!! Please contact Baronne Guenièvre de Monmarché (guenievre@erminespot.com), so that she can consult with you if you have food allergies. Feast tickets are $15 – The only reservation is a paid reservation. If you did not mail your reservation in with a paper check to the Exchequer, Master Manus, such that it arrives in the mail on Friday, April 12, you’ll need to arrive early on site to get a feast ticket. They’ll be sold first- come-first-served.
Merchanting:Any merchant interested in setting up shop, please contact the Event Steward.
Other:Accessibility: As far as the site, while the ground is level, it is grass or gravel. The building is just one level  with a tiled floor.

Event Reservation Cancellations and Refunds; Event refunds must be provided as follows: i. Refunds may be requested for the following 1. Site Reservation 2. Cabin Reservation 3. Camping Reservation 4. Feast Fee - only if requested 24 hours prior to the opening of gate. ii. We do not resell unclaimed reservations iii. Cancellations received at least 7 days prior to the start of the event will be refunded once the funds have cleared and may be processed at the Exchequer's earliest convenience regardless of the profit or loss of the event. iv. No refunds will be given if the event does not make a profit (except in the case of 10.e.iii above). No refunds will be given to those who have checked in with gate. v. The Exchequer must receive refund requests in writing no later than five business days after the close of the event. Exceptions may be made by authorization of the Exchequer in consultation with the Event Steward and the Seneschal. vi. All refunds must be paid by check and shall not be issued until the event receipts have been received and all reservation checks have been deposited. No individual refund may be issued until that reservation check has cleared. vii. All refund requests must contain the following information in order to be honored: 1. Legal name(s) for every person the refund applies to 2. The legal name to make the check out to 3. Mailing address for refund 4. What the refund is for (feast, site, camping, etc.) 5. Additional contact information (preferred, email or phone) viii. A copy of the Baronial financial policy will be available at check-in.

Site Restrictions:Site restrictions: No Alcohol, No smoking allowed in building. Pets must be on a leash or otherwise controlled and contained by the owner. **Trash must be taken with you when site closes. There will be no use of dumpster on site.

Directions: East: I-40 EI-85 N. Take a left on to US-70 E for 2.5 miles. Turn left on to N. Churton St for .5 Miles. Turn right on NC- 57 N for 5 miles to Schley Rd. NorthWest: I-85 S. Take exit 173 and turn right on Cole Mill Road. In 3.7 miles turn right on Pleasant Green Rd. In 5 miles Schley Hall will be at the end of the road. South: Follow I-40 N to Exit 207B NC147 N. In 12 miles merge onto I-85 S. Exit 170 on to US 70 for .2 miles then right on to Pleasant Green Rd for 15 miles. Hall will be on left.
